Letters to our Sons | June 2013

So many things I want to say, I often think to myself remember them, write them down.  And yet, I never do.  This amazing project I am blessed to be a part of allows me to vocalize my thoughts, dreams + hopes for my boys.  Thank you ladies for allowing me to write such special Letters to my Sons

My Sweet Bobo,

So often I look at photos of Lilliana and get the two of you mixed up.  You resemble her in so many ways.  This month, I wanted to take photos of you kids just being you.  To focus on your personalities.  You grabbed your favorite toy – the Lightening McQueen toy and played and played and played.  I didn’t realize what you did or how you moved.  And then, I saw the photos below and realized you really are so much like Lilliana.  This last month, I took an almost identical photo of her.  And I did not even ask you to mimic her pose – you just did it.

Your personality shines through so often but I feel like it’s only when no one is around.  When your brother or sister are nearby, you copy and mimic them so.  You are in their shadow and you take a backseat.  Asher yells the alphabet over your little voice.  Lilliana dresses you up as a princess despite your fight to put o a Jake costume.  You suck it up and play Tinkerbell.  But get you alone and you shine my little guy.  Little milestones we share together.  I’ve realized you’ve shown no others.  I sometimes think you took the page out of my student’s books and choose to not let people see your true self.

You see, as a twin, so often, they will compare you.  They say there is a dominant one – and Asher is taking those reigns.  They will think in their minds how you compare to your brother.  I mean, sometimes I find myself doing just that.  But you surprise me.  You shock me.  At no point in time have you ever shown you recognize any letter other than a B for your name.  I was worried.  Then I steal a few moments.  Just the two of us.  And you point out all the letters in the book we were reading.

Don’t be afraid to be yourself.  Be proud of all you know.  Share your knowledge little guy.  The world is a big place.  You won’t always be in his shadow.  I want you to shine too.

The cuddles you give me are like no other.  The sweet kisses + then the subsequent wipe-off already of mommy’s yucky kisses tug on my heart strings.  You have to realize you were WIMPY (white male preemie) and you proved them wrong.  Prove me wrong.  Prove everyone wrong.  Take the world by storm.

But watch those teeth buddy.  You may have destroyed this set with your antics but I want you to be careful of your second set.

You rock little man.

Love, Mama
